Strategic Action Plan

The City of Spokane is launching a strategic planning effort to identify and address the ways that climate change and rising energy prices will impact the City government’s operations, services, programs and policies.

A $75,000, one year GMA Planning Grant from the Washington State Dept. of Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) will pay for the planning work, which will include many opportunities for citizen involvement.  A volunteer citizen task force appointed by Mayor Verner will lead the strategic planning effort, supported by topic work groups and technical assistance from city staff and other experts regarding issues such as water, energy, local economy (and fiscal considerations), transportation, and land use/buildings.

The strategic action plan will be developed according to the suggestions contained in the Post Carbon Institute’s new guidebook for local governments called “Post Carbon Cities: Planning for Energy and Climate Uncertainty,” postcarboncities.net/guidebook

The timeline for this project is described within the Scope of Work document under the state grant.
